ASSA’s environmental efforts are based on a holistic perspective, which considers what is technically possible, financially reasonable and ecologically motivated. We aim to remain well above all requirements set by the authorities.

Our environmental measures are a key part of everything we do, from developing environment-friendly and allergy-friendly products, to cleaning up waste water from our processes.

We hold SS-EN ISO 14001 certification, which means that all processes are carefully analyzed as to what is taken in and what leaves the factory. Goals and target values are measured and monitored for every significant environmental factor.

This is controlled systematically with a long-term perspective. Maintaining the high functional requirements of security products with optimal conservation of resources on all levels is a great environmental challenge.

Our products all offer an ideal balance between resource consumption in manufacturing and usage on the one hand and technical functioning on the other. ASSA is very highly vertically integrated, which means that the company buys its own basic raw materials, such as steel and brass, and conducts all the refinement processes all the way to the finished lock products. This ensures complete control and transparency and allows optimal recycling throughout the manufacturing chain. At the same time, there is leeway for further improvements.

Environmental control means that we make systematic improvements in our use of resources and generation of by-products. To us, this means further developing existing principles and routines for managing priority environmental aspects associated with the manufacturing, distribution and use of our products.

The ISO 14001 international standard for environmental control systems was completed in 1996. The EU has adopted a voluntary system with a similar focus, called the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). ASSA ABLOY decided that the ISO 14001 standard was a suitable tool to support our internal environmental improvement process, while the independent certification procedure facilitates external environmental communication.
