1980–1999 A new era ASSA’s 100th anniversary was the start of a series of big, important, and above all positive changes for the company.In 1981, ASSA celebrated its 100th anniversary as a company with the release of the Twin 6000 system, a new generation of lock technology utilizing the dual locking mechanisms of today's ASSA cylinders. In 1984 ASSA entered the North American market by establishing ASSA, Inc. in Naperville, IL as a marketing arm of ASSA AB in Sweden. ASSA, Inc. was a full line manufacturer of mortise locks, padlocks, auxiliary locks, and high security key systems. Starting in 1992, ASSA, Inc. shifted its sales direction from independent dealer sales to institutional, industrial, and government sales and began focusing its product offering on the retrofit and replacement high security cylinder segment. With the introduction of its new master keying capabilities ASSA became the logical choice for institutions around the United States and Canada offering patent protected, unique geographically exclusive keyways for ASSA authorized security centers and end users. In 1994 ASSA, Inc. became part of the ASSA ABLOY Group which was formed through the merger of ASSA AB in Sweden and Abloy Oy in Finland. Headquartered in Stockholm, ASSA ABLOY has grown from a regional company into an international group with around 43,000 employees, sales of about $7 billion and operations in over 70 countries. ASSA ABLOY offers a more complete range of door opening solutions than any other company on the market and remains dedicated to satisfying end-user needs for security, safety and convenience.
