Located in Alloa, a town that sits on the banks of the Forth River in the industrial heart of Scotland, the project is a £20million development that encompasses a 45-bed hospital block as well as three GP practices, nursing services and a mental health facility.
The impressive hospital provides in-patients with single en-suite rooms and access to attractive outdoor seating areas and a state-of-the-art gym.
ASSA supplied complete internal timber doorsets with integrated ironmongery to the project, including a range of lockcases from the trusted ASSA Modular range complete with 4800 series cylinders, providing a master keyed system that operates across the hospital’s four buildings.
The Scanflex range of door furniture was used throughout and supplemented by special anti-ligature items in the mental health facility. ASSA door closers were also used throughout the development.
Concealed transom closers were used in communal high-traffic areas such as corridors in conjunction with electromagnetic hold-open devices linked to the fire alarm. In other areas ASSA overhead electromechanical closers, again linked to the fire alarm system, were employed in fire escape routes. In the elderly wards, free-swing closers allowed functionality and fire control whilst assisting the elderly patients.
Other innovative features included, Accessibility WC doorsets with emergency release doorstops and pivot hinges allowing immediate access in an emergency. Robertson Central was the main contractor for the project, which saw over £270,000 of ASSA hardware installed.
Des Wilson of Robertson Central, said:
“ASSA doorset solutions offered a high quality doorset to our contract at the Clackmannanshire Hospital, through extremely challenging circumstances, within our budget, and to the tight timescales required on a demanding site.
“The site was split in to four separate areas, which ASSA had to supply to each individual area, ensuring the correct doorsets matched the individual area door schedules. The logistics of supply to this site was further complicated by Architect's Variations, which continued to change door types, sizes and frame depths, ensuring that ASSA had to have a near constant presence on site to manage the changes, and keep on top of the revisions.
“The overall service offered by the ASSA team was exceptional, they were happy to meet these challenges head on. I would have no hesitation in using ASSA Doorset Solutions again in the future, as they proved capable of managing a large and complicated contract, delivering a finished product of a high standard to the site.”
Allan Thomson, Business Development Manager for Major Projects at ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, commented: “Supplying such a varied product specification to the Clackmannanshire Community Hospital further reinforces our commitment to providing high quality door opening solutions to the health sector.
“In working alongside Robertson Central, we have been able to install products that cater for all of the project’s unique requirements.”
